In
order to pursue our mission we have adopted a biblical profile that
describes a disciple of Jesus Christ in terms of Loving God and
Loving People:
A disciple is
a
follower of Jesus who is seeking to become like
the Savior through a transforming relationship with Him.
A disciple loves God by:
- Learning to surrender to Christ as Savior and
Lord in all areas of life, understanding and continuing to live
out of God's grace. (Luke 14:25-27,33)
- Abiding in God's Word and continually
applying it to life. (John 8:31-32; James 1:22-25)
- Praying privately and with the church body.
(John 15:7; Ephesians 6:18)
- Increasingly bearing the fruit of the Spirit. (Galatians
5:22-23; John 15:1-5, 8, 16)
A disciple loves people by:
- Living in loving community with God's people, identifying
with and serving other believers. (John 13:34-35; Galatians
5:13; 6:9-10)
- Demonstrating Christ to people who are not currently
following God by living among them, loving them, and serving
them. (Matthew 4:19; 5:16)
- Learning to trust God with everything He gives them,
allowing Him control over how to use those things. (Luke 14:33)
- Increasingly bearing the fruit of helping others to follow
Jesus and to grow in their relationship with Him. (Matthew
28:19-20)
